We applaud your interest in searching out the best for your child’s music lessons. We hope you will soon embrace a wonderful musical adventure together with your child.  Here are some questions new families often ask about Suzuki piano lessons and the Suzuki method.  If you have more questions, please contact us.  Thank you!

Q: Do I need to have an acoustic piano, or can my child use an electric keyboard to start Suzuki piano lessons?

A: The Suzuki method teaches the student how to master a natural instrument, any electric keyboard won't do.

Q: Since I don't play the piano, how do I know what piano to buy?

A: Please talk with your piano teacher. Don't rush out and buy a wrong instrument, be it new or used. You will receive good advice from your teacher, because we do care about the quality of the instrument.

Q: How many observation sessions of the Suzuki piano lessons do we need?

A: Every child is different. In general, the younger the child, the more is needed. The parent and the teacher will know when it is time to start piano lessons.

Q: Why do we need observation with Suzuki piano lessons?

A: Your child's music education is the most valuable investment. In order to make a good decision, you must have good information. Observation of the music lessons, allows you to do this without pressure.  During observation sessions, both you and your child are learning. He is learning how to play and you are learning how to help when lessons start.

Q: Can we attend individual Suzuki piano lessons without the group classes?

A: The group classes are the essential part of the Suzuki method. A baby learns to speak easily because of the support of the family.

Q: Does the Suzuki piano method teach students how to play by rote?

A: The method does not intend to teach students how to play by rote, even though at the beginning of Suzuki piano lessons, students do learn to play tunes by ear. Music reading is quickly introduced as soon as the student is ready to take on a different element.

Q: What type of music is taught in Suzuki piano lessons?

A: Classical music.

Q: Do Suzuki students take the traditional Royal Conservatory of Music piano examinations?

A: Yes, when the time comes and parents ask for it.
