Suzuki Piano Lessons  piano lessons, group classes, recitals

How Do We Start lessons

Welcome new families to Suzuki Piano Program!  New families start observing lessons before they commit to our program. We recommend parents to  read the book “Nurtured by Love” written by Dr. Suzuki (London public libraries have copies). Children should start listening to the repertoire CD as soon as possible. Since listening is the essential part of the Suzuki piano method, a listening routine should be set up at home. When lessons begin, the student will attend a weekly piano lesson and a weekly group class.

Suzuki Piano Lessons

At Suzuki Piano Program, lessons begin with the student and the parent observing in the studio together. The number of observation sessions needed will depend on the student's age and readiness. There is no charge for this readiness training which prepares the parent and child for lessons and practising together. The parent takes good notes in the lesson, practises with the child at home, and sets up a listening routine. Always encourage the child with praises and celebrate every achievement. We also encourage the student to arrive a few minutes early or leave a few minutes late to observe other student. Children learn from their peers possibly more than he does from his teacher directly.

Suzuki Group Lessons

Other than attending a piano lesson, students also participate in a weekly piano group lesson. It is to promote good ensemble playing and to encourage the social aspects of music making. Repertoire review is a very important part of a group class. It allows further refinement of techniques, phrasing, articulation and dynamics, reinforcing what is taught in the piano lesson. Through the weekly experience of performing in the group class, Suzuki students learn to play with others and for others, developing strong confidence in performance. The group lessons concept is unique and important to the success of the Suzuki method.

Recitals and Gala Concert

There are regular recitals during the year. This offers young students a more formal performance experience. At the end of the school year, all students will participate in a gala concert. We also invite other Suzuki students from different instruments to join us.
